Welcome to a special edition of the Pop Parties blog, featuring our fabulous, talented Branding Manager and Stationery Designer, Kayla Matt! In a celebration of all things luxury stationery, Kayla shares her versatile design style, her favorite suites she’s created, and an in-depth look at her process.

When I became a stationery designer, I had no idea I also had to be an engineer. Not something you’d expect, but a glance at any of the personalized suites I’ve created show exactly what I mean. Intricate measuring, material sourcing, timeline management and printing techniques are only the tip of the iceberg. At Pop Parties, no wedding or event is the same, and the personalization aspect is something we are always thinking about. Stationery exemplifies that more than anything. Details like custom-drawn maps, watercolor depictions of the venue, and symmetrical folding make all the difference and take your invitations from good to great! I love playing with different patterns, textures, and materials to really up the “wow” factor.

One of my favorite things about creating custom stationery is how I get to do something completely different for every client. Some weddings are black tie, and therefore require elegant, traditional suites. Others provide the opportunity to dive into a unique venue or theme, with the stationery reflecting a more playful feel.
Recently, I designed suites for two very different weddings. The first is a more classic, traditional aesthetic with springtime colors and gold foil detailing. I love how timeless and refined it is, reflecting the tender, romantic ceremony of our clients. I’m very proud of this one.

In contrast, this suite was designed for a bride who originally thought she wanted something more traditional. But since she was getting married in New Orleans, we suggested she lean into the vibrant location and let the stationery reflect that. She trusted our advice and was absolutely in love with the colorful, playful NOLA-inspired suite! I had so much fun with the shapes and fonts, challenging myself to create something totally unique.

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but for a variety of reasons, these suites stand out for me. Each element was a delightful challenge — an opportunity to create something truly special for the clients.
We planned a stunning wedding in Montana for an amazing couple, and they wanted their stationery to reflect the history of the Old West and their love for the mountains. I loved getting the chance to play with textures like wood and leather and even earned myself the nickname “Map Lady” for the custom map of the venue I drew. This suite came together beautifully and really got guests excited for the wedding!

After years of designing softer, more feminine suites, I dove headfirst into creating a masculine aesthetic when Dallas Cowboys lineman Zack Martin hired us for his retirement party — and I only had two days to do it! Using the iconic branding of the Cowboys, I designed these playful invitations and a matching custom website for Zack. Despite the time crunch, I had so much fun with this invitation!

Custom stationery is the ultimate expression of emotion and aesthetic for an event. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday, retiring with style, or planning the wedding of your dreams, at Pop Parties we’ve got you covered with personalized stationery that goes far beyond just pretty paper.
