Shenny and Nathan’s Love Story

Shenny and Nathan are high school sweet hearts. Shenny grew up in New Orleans eating crawfish and king cake before being transplanted to Plano as a result of Hurricane Katrina. They both enrolled at John Paul II High School in the Fall of 2007. Nathan asked Shenny to Homecoming where they danced the night away. Soon thereafter, they started dating and Nathan was unsure if he could hang out with her family. Shenny’s parents are from Honduras and speak Spanish non-stop. They would invite him to things he was unaccustomed to, such as a crawfish boils and to eat sushi. Nathan embraced it.

As it came time for college, Shenny went on to Auburn University and Nathan went to TCU. They visited each other each semester and couldn’t stay apart. They were each other’s favorite date for functions and game days. Now, he understands more Spanish and has grown to love most foods her family throws his way. He even rode in a Mardi Gras parade once he was “officially” part of the family as her fiance.

The Proposal

After many years of skiing together, Beaver Creek Village became their second home. Over the Christmas Holiday, Shenny and Nathan were walking through the Village where it was snowing. Nathan stopped her and asked for a photo of her in the beautiful snow for his grandmother, who was turning 90 that day. He explained that his grandmother wanted a picture of her since she knew how special Shenny is to him. As he told her where to stand, he stopped and got down on one knee. All she heard was cheering because he also surprised her with both of their families! As he turns to put the ring on her hand, he asked jokingly (but really serious) which finger the ring goes on which she found amusing and endearing. Later, after many pictures were taken he looks over at her and confusingly asks “did you say yes?” which she laughed and excitedly responded “I said of course!”
